Gang Violence

Regrettably gang violence is a persistent and deadly problem in all areas of the County. Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries helped Lloyd resolve a case for the first time over 30 years ago. “Every  year that has passed since then makes me believe more strongly in Father Greg’s motto, ‘Nothing stops a bullet like a job.’”  Lloyd will support programs through the Probation Department and community stake holders that help young men and women integrate productively into their communities. The LA City Attorney and the Superior Court downtown runs a highly effective gang diversion court for misdemeanor gang-related offenses.  Lloyd will work to implement a similar program in any court to which he is assigned, and attempt to expand it to low level felony offenders as well. A young man accused of a minor gang related felony may not deserve to have his felony charge dismissed completely, but if a young man on the wrong track is willing to make a serious change in his life, a judge should be able to help the prosecution and defense come together to give him a reduction in the charge and/or the punishment so as to minimize the long-term consequences to his life.
